Seaborne series.
Dean, Ronan, and Waverly get themselves mixed up with some nasty pirates who force them to rob a fancy resort. Unfortunately, the trio ends up in Atlantis, in the middle of an attempted coup. While Ronan and Waverly remain underdeveloped characters, we do see some much-needed rounding out of Dean. The action is exciting, and the plot turns keep things moving.

Young Dean, having run afoul of the Pirate King, is forced on a secret mission to find a route to the fabled golden island of Zenhala. Myklusch relies too heavily on stock settings and characterizations, and the story feels clichéd; nevertheless, the action is tense throughout as Dean overcomes one obstacle after the next.

Jack Blank Adventure series.
Superhero trainee Jack wakes to discover that he is in the clutches of his archenemies, the Rustov. After a daring escape, Jack finds himself beset on all sides by enemies and by friends turned foes. The comic-book-style action continues in this conclusion to the trilogy, with greater exposition and depth than in prior entries as Jack completes the hero’s journey.

In his second book, budding superhero Jack has come off his stunning victory over an arch-nemesis only to find himself back in training. When a new menace arises, he and his fellow trainees must save the day again. The story provides the thrills and action of a comic book with increased background and exposition adding pages and pages.

Orphan Jack has few prospects--until being carried off on a voyage where he must figure out who he is while protecting himself from an alien horde. The story is essentially a comic book adventure in novel form, with superheroes and advanced technology to be found in spades. Though the tale's action quickens its pace, the book is still too long.
