Fifteen-year-old Kathleen falls in love with an illegal immigrant. After the boy's death at the hands of the police, Kathleen runs away to Mexico, turns to drugs, and ends up pregnant. Though some of the language and references are dated, the story's grittiness and drama will still draw readers.
