As Mama and Baby go about their daily routine, Baby's tootsies stomp during breakfast, tap to a favorite song, splash in the bathtub, and so on. Dockray's warm, animated illustrations show "Chubby, cuddly / Baby feet" in action.

(4) PS Illustrated by Tammie Lyon. "Dream kitten, / fluff kitten, / sun kitten, / light. / Yawn kitten, / stretch kitten, / sweet kitten, / bright." Large, cheerful gouache and colored-pencil illustrations show a girl playing with her kitten, feeding it, cuddling it, and encouraging it to use a scratching post. The lilting rhymes are tight, but they cumulatively verge on singsongy.

(4) PS Illustrated by Tammie Lyon. "New puppy, / young puppy, / soft puppy, / small. / Grow, puppy, / run, puppy, / chase, puppy, / ball." Readers accompany a bespectacled girl and her beagle as they go for a walk, fetch sticks, and learn tricks. Appealing full-bleed gouache and colored-pencil illustrations complement the minimal text, though the singsongy rhythm grows tiresome.

(4) PS Illustrated by Thierry Courtin. A pair of red-haired twins begin this book as babies and grow to be toddlers, along the way experiencing diaper changes, roller-skating, and bedtime prayers à deux. The rhyming text is basically a list of their "double" fun. Preschoolers will enjoy the illustrations, which, with their profusion of pastel-toned pinks, blues, and yellows, are as sweet as the sentiment.
