Jacob approaches life with irrepressible enthusiasm, so he's sometimes a trial to his parents, who must keep track of twelve children. However, on a family trip to the beach, when the incoming tide catches everyone else unawares, the venturesome Jacob has already discovered an escape route. Lively, humorous illustrations make it easy to applaud the young rabbit's satisfying triumph.

"'Is it Christmas?' asked Baby Bear....'No, not yet,' said Grandbear, 'but after two more sleeps, it will be.'" Until then, Baby Bear helps Grandbear make cards, cook and clean, and decorate a tree in preparation for their family's visit. This simple story captures the excitement and anticipation of the season from a toddler's point of view. Prater's softly colored illustrations show an idyllic wintry setting.

Although some of the traditional rhymes are slightly different from the standard American versions, this collection of new and familiar childhood verses--action rhymes, counting rhymes, poems, and songs--will please preschoolers. The pleasant watercolors feature roly-poly Baby Bear and his big bear friend.

Once a year, "all toys everywhere leave their owners for a night of fun." On this special night, four stuffed animals climb a slide at the playground, enjoy the view from the top of the world, and then, in a sunrise-lit full-page illustration, whoosh down the slide. The simplicity of the action and the soft watercolor illustrations that define the four friends make this an appealing story.
