These formulaic books provide adequate introductions to each athlete's professional career. The format, which includes repetitive black-and-white action shots, is dull, but the text captures game details. The adulatory books touch on controversial issues, but they tend to be glossed over. Profiles of Kidd, a rising basketball star, and Favre, a reigning star of football, emphasize athletic achievements but reveal little about each player's personal life and character. Fact boxes highlight additional snippets of information, and large typeface and wide margins lend appeal for reluctant readers. Black-and-white photos appear throughout, and stats and chapter notes conclude each volume. Ind.

This formulaic biography offers the standard fare: a look at Malone's basketball career from high school to college to the NBA. The focus here is on "the Mailman's" professional career, with little attention given to his off-the-court life. Lots of play-by-play descriptions and poorly chosen, poorly reproduced black-and-white action photos characterize this volume. A list of Malone's stats is included. Ind.
