Beginning with a turning point in its subject's life, each book looks back to cover childhood and early training, then moves forward to unfolding careers. Achievements, awards, and public persona are ably outlined. In Sitting Bull, however, the individual is secondary to a retelling of the displacement of Native groups and the resulting battles.
