Halfdan, a former slave turned Viking warrior, still tries to avenge his half-brother's murder. Seeking combat experience, he becomes embroiled in the Viking invasion of Frankia. The battles are many and thrilling, but Halfdan's leaden narrative voice is improbably reflective, and love interest Genevieve, a captured Frankish nun, is anachronistically independent of thought.

In this sequel to Viking Warrior, fifteen-year-old former slave Halfdan joins the crew of a Viking longship. Having sworn to avenge his brother's death, he bides his time while the crew invades Frankish lands. Halfdan's narration is too monolithically stoic to be convincing, but the assiduous historical details make for a strongly developed setting. A historical note is included. Glos.
