(4) 4-6 Knights of the Borrowed Dark series. In the second installment, Denizen's life has (kinda) returned to normal--which for him includes dealing with monsters and understanding the powers Mercy left within him. A meeting between the Knights and Tenebrae reveals the cultish Croits, who worship an ancient Tenebrous. Rudden creates two intriguing focal points with the Knights and Croits; however, following both complicates the story line and makes it difficult to connect with the characters.

(3) 4-6 One night at Crosscaper Orphanage in Ireland, Denizen Hardwick's life changes when he is summoned to meet his previously unknown aunt, Vivian--a Malleus (a.k.a. Knight Superior) of the Order of the Borrowed Dark. Denizen trains with the knights to stave off monsters that grow out of the shadows. Fans of contemporary fantasy should enjoy this coming-of-age story with a twist.
