Rudy hand-sculpts landscapes and animal figures using natural-looking found materials and felt; the photographed scenes are particularly rich in detail and will reward those who want to spend time with them. Her satisfying variation on the familiar story resolves with country mouse Tansy and city mouse Will settling down in a small "halfway town," the couple's compromise between city and country living.

A mouse addresses her audience with suggestions about how to choose ("pick a pet you'll like to exercise") and care for ("it might not like to play dress-up") a pet. The didactic text is paired with photographs of Rudy's handmade mice arranged in miniature tableaux constructed from scraps of fabric, beads, wood, and more; the effect is static but often intriguing.
