Lane and Sadie narrate with distinct but equally seductive voices, tempting readers to share their devastating, constantly threatened illusion of teenage invulnerability.

When a car crash ends Ezra's sports career he feels alienated from his popular peers. Adrift, he reconnects with an old friend, joins the debate team, and falls in love with an eccentric girl who keeps him at arm's length. Although Ezra's frequent philosophizing hovers near pretentious, fans of sharp-tongued, well-read teen characters will be very satisfied.

Brainy Charley and his dream girl/nemesis Skylar arrive at boarding school early to jump-start their senior year. When they reunite with bad-boy Blake, their pal who's been out of the picture since freshman year, things get intense. The angsty-rich-kids plot is nothing new and many of the characters are plastic, but Charley and Skylar's voices are fresh and entertaining.
