Crisp photos of nocturnal animals partially visible against a black background are accompanied by sophisticated paragraphs describing the animals' habits and habitats. Though lacking a glossary and burdened by many questionable design elements (including the choice to print some photos astride the page gutter), these close-ups should inspire budding conservationists. Appendices list threats to the animals and the organizations protecting them.
