Teenager Reiko, blindly consumed with hatred and vengeance, has been sent to stay with relatives in Tokyo. While visiting a historical village, she's transported between time periods into the life of Miyu, a nineteenth-century girl with her own demons. The mood remains dark and compelling as Reiko begins spiraling into madness, but she remains an unlikable caricature, and the ending is unrealistically tidy.

This better-focused 1960s-era sequel to Sekret continues the part historical, part science fiction conceit. Yulia's escape from Communist Russia to the U.S. isn't the safe haven she imagined from the KGB's psychic espionage program. The action-filled plot is led by the heroine's resolve to gain control of her own mind in order to save both her family and new country from the Soviet Union.

Livia's unique ability to inhabit another person through dreams places her in a position to act as a spy for the Barstadt Empire. She succeeds in uncovering a rival nation's plot to invade the Empire and must work to save herself and her fellow citizens. Fantasy, espionage, intriguing characterization, and action-filled adventure make for thrilling reading.
