Bunny Chester decorates six eggs in different colors and hides them for his friends; they each find their egg and come together for an Easter surprise. Mostly a lesson on colors of the rainbow, there's very little tension in the slim plot, but young readers will enjoy spotting the eggs, cleverly camouflaged in their hiding spots. The homey collage illustrations have impressive dimension.

In Smythe's effectively busy collage illustrations, an appealingly fuzzy Snowbear keeps the lights on for Martha Stewart in his ebullient and all-encompassing month of preparation. There are few surprises and even less plot in this secular advent calendar, but preschoolers looking forward to the big day will enjoy the orderly procession of events, and so much to do.
