Henry and his dog Pomegranate live in an apartment with Mom on Mondays, Wednesdays, and alternating weekends; they live in a house with Dad the rest of the time. Rich, colorful art done with acrylics and collage works together with the text to show two inviting homes. Nevertheless, one morning when Pomegranate disappears, Henry knows just where to look. A warm, thoughtful book.

When drought plagues their Mexican village, seven-year-old Graciela's papi leaves to work in California. Graciela waits sadly for a birthday package from him that never arrives, and although Mama makes her a beautiful doll, Graciela longs for the gift gone astray. The story is wordy and meandering but ultimately hopeful. Soft, fuzzy-focused pastels depict the story's rural Mexican setting.

This tale of a faithful dog searching for his master is predictable but attractive. When his elderly owner disappears one day, Yudi goes looking for him. He finds him when he hears the strains of Mr. K's favorite opera coming from a big house with "Shady Acres" on its awning. The bright illustrations are full of details from Yudi's perspective.
