A double-page scene in art class reveals the answer: while her schoolmates paint animals, she's drawn a spiral surrounded by formulas and graphs because she adores "MATH!" To the young narrator, playground structures are polygon shapes, and skipping stones create concentric circles. Tanco's spare, succinct writing is paired with striking, casually detailed illustrations.

(3) PS Following You and Me, Me and You: Brothers, Tanco's book features a girl who describes how she's helpful to her mother (e.g., "I follow your lead... / and keep your secrets safe"). Tanco's characteristically spare line art--this time in black, gray, and watermelon red--effectively reveals what the narrator doesn't, as when she kicks a ball that inadvertently nearly beans her mom ("I test...your reflexes").

(3) PS This delightful follow-up to You and Me, Me and You (in which a child described "teaching" an adult caregiver how to do things) features a similarly spare text defining brotherly (or all-sibling) love: e.g., "A brother shares friends... / and secret hideouts." Tanco's fastidious line art, this time accented with tangerine, shows two brothers at (mostly harmonious) play.

(3) PS "I show you how to talk to strangers... / and how to slow down." A child enumerates all the things taught to an adult, sounding uncannily like what a parent does for a child. This big-hearted, small-scale book's dainty line illustrations in black, brown, and yellow show the caregiver-child pair observing ants, playing in cardboard boxes, and otherwise enjoying life together.
