In this sequel to Ruined, Em is reunited with her sister, Olivia; while Em struggles to protect their people and broker peace, all Olivia wants is revenge. Meanwhile, Cas struggles to retain his throne in Lera and keep his promise of peace to Em. The royal characters' politically unsavvy, convoluted machinations muddle the court intrigue in this second book, but the romance will please returning fans.

When Em marries the son of the king who ordered her people hunted down and killed, she doesn't plan on falling for him. Doing so is unfortunate: if her plan works, he and his family will die. The politics and logistics of this revenge plot are overshadowed by the romance, but the complex emotional core will still attract readers.

They and the other escaped Reboots, young people brought back from the dead to serve as government soldiers, quickly learn that they are to be used again, this time to destroy humans. Strong characters and a hopeful conclusion enhance a unique and thrilling plot.

Wren, an emotionless hunter for the government, has her world shaken up when she falls for sensitive newbie Callum. The plot is compelling, the romance tender and realistic; a satisfying ending welcomes future installments.
