Thirteen-year-old Rose befriends Jade, a shape-shifting dragon, in the Nevada desert. Jade is searching for a stone that will wake other dragons from their multi-million-year enchanted sleep. The straightforward, humdrum story only picks up in the last third when an enemy emerges, but those looking for a gentle dragon tale with mild danger should enjoy this; the ending sets the stage for a sequel.
