The illustrations, flaps, and text boxes are laid out in a scrapbook-like design; unfortunately, foldouts often obscure surrounding graphics or text.

Color photographs, cross-sections, and "x-ray vision" diagrams allow for interesting perspectives, while the straightforward text and sidebars provide the history behind the technology. The text-heavy pages and busy design make navigation something of a challenge. Glos., ind.
