1980s-obsessed misfit Coy struggles to navigate modern-day ninth grade while also dealing with issues at home. His equally quirky best friend, Monroe, helps keep him sane until she comes down with a mysterious skin illness. A healthy dose of humor helps balance out the serious stuff, although the combination of eighties references and mature jokes might make this appeal more to adults than teens.
