The four biographies follow the series formula: a talented athlete has early success, battles frustration on and off the field, cracks the majors, has a couple good years, and makes a fortune on the free agent market. Little attention is paid to the athletes' personal lives. Tuttle looks at the history of the minor leagues, including notable players and moments.
