Illustrated by
Everett Aison.
Arthur, a nonconformist bird, survives a New York City winter alone, having declined to go south with his Central Park friends. The pictures of his efforts to stay alive (he finds warmth over the subway gratings) offer sophisticated fun in this lengthy picture book for older readers. Aison combines black crayon and black ink, subtly shaded for interesting effects of city trees, people, and birds.
