This rendition based on the 1805 version by Sarah Catherine Martin finds Old Mother Hubbard out buying everything for her dog--a new hat, coat, wig, shoes, then finally, a bone--while he has some fun at home dancing a jig and riding a goat. Cabrera's bold, colorful paintings amusingly illustrate the jaunty rhyme.

When Dora the duck plans a "best egg competition," the other farm animals find the odds stacked against them. Happily, her sportsmanlike friends are as pleased as she when Eggday arrives and Dora announces she's changed the occasion to Duckling Day. The celebratory tone pervades the good-natured foolishness throughout, effectively anticipating the happy ending. Vibrant paintings depict an exuberant cast of animals.
