When the Lusitania is torpedoed, Avis (a real-life Lusitania survivor) herself bravely lives out shipwreck and rescue. Avis's mildly eventful shipboard life is counterbalanced by Holbourn's ferocious adventure story, presented in wordless graphic-novel panels interspersed throughout the main text.

Some reliably illustrate important concepts, while others contribute little. Accompanying the activities is information about threats to marine and global environmental health, as well as steps readers can take to play a role in conservation. (4) 4-6 Illustrated by Willow Dawson. Seven short comics present stories about women disguised as men throughout history. Figures sometimes considered apocryphal or legendary (Alfhild and Hua Mulan) are included alongside actual women with no differentiation, and many historically controversial assertions are stated as fact. Still, it's an enjoyable and unique presentation of little-known women's history. Reading list.
