(4) K-3 Illustrated by Randall Enos. Heinz traces the story of Mocha Dick, the whale that inspired Herman Melville's Moby-Dick, from the first whaling ship he attacked to his ultimate demise. Enos's colorful, textured art, in the style of traditional scrimshaw, grows darker as Mocha Dick approaches his end. A visually appealing package, but the subject matter may not hold most picture-book readers' interest.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Randall Enos. Although the bullfrog at Peekaboo Pond can read, he can't see on a moonless night and it's up to the fireflies to provide illumination. They form a square, first of four flies, then nine, sixteen, twenty-five, and, finally, a hundred. The math lesson overpowers the story, but Enos's linocut illustrations clearly show the arithmetical formations and Pinczes's couplets encourage participation.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Randall Enos. An inchworm measures the length of different vegetables--with the help of a few other worms that just happen to be exact fractions of an inch. The rhyming story is a clever attempt at introducing readers to both fractions and measurement. However, in the colorful linocut illustrations, the worms' measurements are confusingly depicted as a series of arcs rather than straight-line distances.
