The team behind Read Anything Good Lately? and Written Anything Good Lately? here pairs each letter of the alphabet with a use for numbers, from A for apartment number to Z for zip code. The text has some awkward spots ("sum number" and "weight number" are odd expressions), but the detail-rich illustrations merit second looks.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Vicky Enright. The authors use the abecedarian format to pen a literary anthem to the act of reading anything, anywhere, anytime. How about a comic book around the campfire, for example, or a tall tale in a tree house? The enthusiastic text is accompanied by spunky line and watercolor paintings.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Vicky Enright. Many of the eighty projects in this compendium are from Ross's previous craft books. Simple step-by-step illustrated instructions for seasonal items such as sun catchers, fans, and banners require readily available materials. There is at least one craft for each major and minor holiday. The design is thoughtful--spiral binding allows the book to stay open, and the cover wipes clean.

Wide, bright cartoon borders show winter activities that inspired or include the finished product. Big Foot tracks, Valentine gifts and cards, New Year's noisemakers, snowmen, and sun catchers are only a few possibilities for satisfying creative urges.

From a school bus picture frame to cornucopia place cards, these inventive projects use readily available materials in creative ways. The steps are easy to follow for the most part, aided by clear watercolor illustrations. Perfect for home, school, or day care.

Springtime animals, plants, and holidays provide the inspiration for twenty-nine original projects ("Lion and Lamb Necklace," "Crocus Dish Garden," "Maypole Hat") made from basic household materials. The book would make a good resource for teachers, but young crafters should find the clearly worded step-by-step written and illustrated instructions easy enough to follow without much adult supervision.
