Illustrated by
Lisa Fifield.
A one-page story about the Great Plains Indians and their interactions with animals that inhabit the region accompanies each detailed, stylized painting. Both author and artist are of Native American and German descent, and the stories flow from folkloric and cultural themes. Some are strongly told, while others seem abrupt and elusive in their brevity. Overall, this is an attractive but uneven collection.
