This well-developed prose retelling of Shakespeare's play maintains all of the central plot elements along with a good deal of the original language. McKeown forefronts clear dialogue and keeps his focus on the emotions that drive the famous plot. The uninspired illustrations, however, do little to provide readers with a window into the characters or their world. Ind.

Using the natural voice of a storyteller, Cheney, in a spare text, tells of the despair of soldiers at Valley Forge, Washington's bold strategy to attack the British at Trenton and Princeton, and the sacrifice and bravery he exacted from his troops. Dramatic paintings create a visual narrative that parallels the text.

Graceful narration in free verse conveys both historical details and the excitement of two of the Wright brothers' significant public demonstrations in 1909: Wilbur's flights at the Hudson-Fulton Celebration in New York City and Orville's in Germany. Colorful, slightly impressionistic illustrations clarify the text, which never loses trajectory though its details range from family relationships to a crown prince passenger. Epilogue, maps, timeline.

Using Thoreau's own words, Schnur judiciously adapts Walden for a younger audience. Thoreau describes how he builds a one-room cabin in the woods near Walden Pond and closely observes the seasons changing around him; on the final spread he marvels, "We can never have enough of Nature." Impressionistic paintings handsomely capture the surroundings that inspired Thoreau.

The economic events that led the patriots to dump tea off English ships into Boston Harbor are presented with watercolors that re-create the setting and add drama. The events are confusing without elaborate explanation, and this book would work best as a complement to a history text, or for readers who have a grasp on the politics of the times. An afterword and time line are included.
