Each spread in this picture book begins with the line "I have the right . . ." Serres emphasizes that all children have the same freedoms, including the right to food, clean water, shelter, and a peaceful existence. Vivid colors in Fronty's naïve-style paintings enliven the sometimes ponderous text. A helpful author's note discusses the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Delval paraphrases forty Bible stories featuring animals, from God's naming of the creatures to Noah's ark and the Dove of Jesus. Because the summaries are so short it can be hard to grasp what's going on, but the texts are easy to read and could serve as jumping-off points. The volume is well designed; Fronty's illustrations, though a bit static, are eye-pleasing.

King Solomon settles a land dispute by recounting a folktale from both Arab and Jewish traditions. Two brothers from nearby villages equally share their best harvest. Each then tries to secretly give the other a gift of more grain; where they meet on their generous mission becomes Jerusalem. The peaceful, loving tale is accompanied by folk art–like paintings evocative of the Middle Eastern setting.
