Over two dozen paintings of Santa Claus by legendary commercial illustrator Grant (an introduction notes that he enjoyed drawing Santa more than any other subject) are paired with Christmas-themed writings, some well known, including the lyrics to "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." The reproductions are top quality, but this book will be of more interest to nostalgic adults and art students than to kids.

(4) PS Grant, an artist who found fame creating the Snap! Crackle! and Pop! characters for Rice Krispies cereal in the 1930s, also illustrated nursery rhymes that appeared on the back of the cereal boxes. Twenty-four of those are reproduced here, revealing a crisp sense of graphic design and flair as a colorist. As charming as his elfin storyland denizens are, this may be most appealing to those interested in the history of commercial art.
