Color by Maarta Laiho. Five young dragons are destined to fulfill a prophecy to end the war among dragon tribes. In the graphic novel adaptation of the first title in Sutherland's popular fantasy series, the illustrations translate rather than enhance the original story. Still, they have some clever moments, and a dynamic panel layout should keep pages turning.

Color by Hilary Sycamore. In this prequel to the 2017 animated film Animal Crackers, young Owen saves his abducted uncle with help from magical animal crackers. The circus setting, influenced by the iconic snack's packaging, has a retro feel that leans toward stereotype with its stock figures. Although the plot can be confusing at times, this colorful, skillfully illustrated graphic novel combines action, humor, and caricature to entertaining effect.
