(4) K-3 Illustrated by Sernur Isik. Daniel feels left out at his uncle Eli's wedding but uses their shared love of soccer to save the ceremony. Teachable moments about Jewish weddings are integrated into the story, and a page of explanation follows. In both characterization and the cartoon illustrations, the two bubbes exemplify too many stereotypes, detracting a bit from the book's celebration of Jewish culture. Glos.

In her predictable second outing, fourth-grade fortuneteller Krystal's premonitions indicate that something is going to ruin her school's Wizard of Oz production. After the star hurts her ankle, Krystal and her friends, both new and old, help Emily get back on stage. Black-and-white illustrations highlight Krystal's crazy curls and eccentric fashion sense.
