The kid from Dino Pets parades his various dinosaurs into school for pet day. The creatures--tallest, spikiest, widest--wreak havoc; only "the youngest dino" (i.e., an egg) is acceptable. The text's choppy meter may trip up readers, but the cheerful tone and riotous illustrations will entertain dinosaur fans.

Elliot is an ordinary boy who, without realizing it, becomes king of the elflike Brownies and enemy to the monsterlike Goblins in the Underworld. With its many sly asides to readers, the book starts off as an amusing, engaging fantasy; it loses some steam, however, as the fantasy world's rules collapse and the real-world interactions become more preposterous.

Becker Drane is part of an elite group recruited to fix glitches in The Seems, a parallel world that supports Earth's functioning. When Earth's sleep patterns are disrupted, Becker must neutralize the problem before it destroys both worlds. This science fiction adventure is big on clever wordplay but light on explaining what makes the symbiotic relationship between the worlds necessary.

A child choosing a pet dinosaur finds that the largest, fastest, and scariest dinosaurs all prove unsuitable in one way or another. However, by the end, the dino pets have all come home to roost. Though the rhythm falters, the rhyming text is cheery. Kendall's illustrations of cuddly dinosaurs also keep things light. Facts about real dinosaurs are appended.

From his attic roost in the public library, Littlebat eavesdrops on story hour, but he isn't allowed to go down close to see the pictures. Motherbat says he must wait for the right time, which finally comes months later, when Halloween decorations adorn the walls and Littlebat blends right in. The payoff doesn't quite justify the buildup, but readers will relish Littlebat's predicament and Kendall's endearing depiction of him.
