K-3
Illustrated by
Kazu Kibuishi.
This picture book cleverly subverts expectations, as a seemingly dull narrative about a boy sitting in a chair quickly evolves into a thrilling adventure full of sky battles and dragons. Kibuishi’s vibrant, digitally colored pen-and ink-illustrations, with their steampunk aesthetic and detailed action scenes, perfectly complement the playful text. While the plot can get a bit confusing toward the end, the engaging visuals and imaginative world will captivate young readers and adults alike.
