A noise-averse, city-dwelling little woman is pleased to inherit a place in the country. She quickly finds farm life too sedate, so she brings home some farm animals to liven things up. Something is still missing--"BOYS"--and the farm is never quiet again. Teal's story remains fresh and entertaining, with many opportunities for audience participation. Lawson's strong-lined black-and-white drawings bring out the humor.

This Caldecott Honor book tells the story of orphan Wee Gillis, who shunts between his mother's relatives in Scotland's lowlands and his father's Highlander relations. When the day for choosing where he'll spend the rest of his life arrives, Wee Gillis comes up with a clever solution that keeps everybody happy. Lawson's pen-and-ink drawings bring the story to exuberant life.

In this fictionalized approach, readers accompany a sea otter pup through his first several months of life. The narrative teaches readers what and how sea otters eat and where they live. The new detailed art includes close-up images of mother and pup that are a little too cartoony and cutesy for the realistic story. Glos.
