A mother enumerates all the unexpected ways in which her life has changed since having a daughter. Her floor is covered with toys and she is awakened much too early, but she loves her child "GINORMOUSLY." Pleasant rhyming text and McDonnell's simple cartoons join the ranks of comforting bedtime books that are really more for parents than children.

Unable to shake the skunk that's tailing him, the narrator crawls down a manhole and establishes a new life in a new part of the city. Before long, though, the narrator searches for the skunk to "make sure he does not follow me again." Graceful and simple cartoonlike illustrations match the deadpan text's offbeat humor.
