Stories about famous cat battles add to the general background of the series, but readers will need to be extremely familiar with the many Warriors books to appreciate these tales.

Rabid Warriors fans will appreciate this book's compilation of stories explaining how the cats' code of behavior came about, enhancing the history and background of the existing books. Readers unfamiliar with the Warriors will be confused by the multitude of characters and allusions to important series events. Black-and-white spot art and New Age-y paintings on glossy paper illustrate the volume.

Though series fans won't learn much new information, they'll welcome the book into their collections.

Filled with explanations of each clan, stories of individual cats, glossy illustrations, maps of the clan territories, and a glossary of warrior cat vocabulary, the book provides details and information not found in the Warriors novels. Although it's not as exciting as the actual stories in the series, this guide will be a welcome addition to readers' collections.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Wayne McLoughlin. The formation of a limestone cave is powered by water that slowly carves out caverns inhabited by a variety of familiar and unfamiliar creatures. The story of this process is told in a rhythmic verse that maintains scientific integrity even in its expressive descriptions. The colorful illustrations are largely accurate, too. An author's note and pronounciation guide are included.
