When Lizzie begs for a cat, the family goes to the animal shelter where she picks a sad-eyed kitten. As the cat matures, it becomes apparent that he is really a lion. The bright illustrations are playful, and the catchy rhyme describing the animals at the shelter is fun to read, but little attention is given to why Lizzie likes the bad-tempered lion.
