Two children go on a treasure hunt through their yard, gathering items in a wagon. At book's end, the kids meet their friends and stage a makeshift parade for their families. Carefree pastel, watercolor, and pencil drawings illustrate the story. The bilingual text contains short phrases in both Spanish and English, making this ideal for children just starting to read in either language.

Lupita and Tío Urbano welcome the arrival of the monarch butterflies, which Urbano tells her are the souls of their "dead ones" visiting before the Day of the Dead. Sadly, Urbano dies days before the celebration, but at the cemetery, Lupita sees a monarch and knows her uncle is there. The story provides useful information about this Mexican holiday; the fuzzy colored-pencil illustrations are awkwardly rendered. Glos.

When drought plagues their Mexican village, seven-year-old Graciela's papi leaves to work in California. Graciela waits sadly for a birthday package from him that never arrives, and although Mama makes her a beautiful doll, Graciela longs for the gift gone astray. The story is wordy and meandering but ultimately hopeful. Soft, fuzzy-focused pastels depict the story's rural Mexican setting.

As in Fiesta, Guy presents a basic concept (colors) in a bilingual text. A brother and sister gather different-colored items for a siesta. The final item is a rainbow-colored blanket. The simple text alternates between Spanish and English, repeating the word or phrase in both languages. The illustrations capture the warm and close sibling relationship.

A Mexican girl awakens at night to find a man stealing the lemons from her lemon tree. In trying to discover how to help her tree, which falls ill after the episode, the girl connects with a mythical wise woman, who teaches her a lesson in compassion. While the story is somewhat meandering, it contains some lyrical imagery, and the watercolor illustrations warmly depict the girl's home and village.
