(4) K-3 Illustrated by Liz Murphy. Hoping to drum up some friends, dog Stella tells everyone in her porcine dance class that she's a pig princess. This be-true-to-yourself picture book is fairly indistinguishable from an Angelina Ballerina–type offering. However, the expressive pink- and purple-heavy mixed-media illustrations add some flair.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Liz Murphy. Each year, a grandmother alters a dress she made for her granddaughter, to suit the girl's changing size and fashion sense--and to do her part for the environment. The book's purposefulness prevents the narrating granddaughter from being anything but a mouthpiece. Regardless, the premise is original, and readers will eagerly turn pages to see the ever-morphing frock shown in mixed-media illustrations.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Liz Murphy. Abandoned in a park, a charismatic but scruffy dog finds a loving new owner through Broadway Barks, a theater showcase that raises awareness about homeless pets. The real event behind the story--a pet adopt-a-thon on Broadway--is more interesting than the well-meaning but quotidian story. Mixed-media collage illustrations add texture and whimsy. A CD of Peters reading the story is included.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Liz Murphy. In this alphabet book, each word or phrase provides dental facts in order to promote healthy oral hygiene. The variety of topics (from hygienist's job to yellow teeth) makes for an unfocused approach, and some terms aren't adequately explained. Regardless, apprehensive patients will appreciate the matter-of-fact tone and cheerful collage and oil illustrations.
