Harrison anchors his discussion of volcano formation and characteristics in an explanation of plate tectonics. While this allows for the inclusion of sophisticated information, the necessary simplifications could underscore common misconceptions. Bib.

Harrison describes how limestone caves are formed, the structures within them such as stalagmites, and the animals that live both deep inside and near their entrances. Harrison's poetic text is concise, providing thorough explanations in just a few lines per page. The illustrations convey the essence of cave interiors in this attractive introduction.
