Sophie Johnson has seventeen unicorns; albeit they're really a baby, dog, toys, and stuffed animals with "horns" properly secured. Bright, rainbow-colored mixed-media illustrations depict the lively messiness of Sophie's house as she teaches her unicorns about magic, food hunting, and the dangers of balloons. Young fans of the fantastical subject matter will delightedly spy the magical visitor that oblivious "unicorn expert" Sophie misses.

Toddler "Tiny Tantrum" throws fits whenever she doesn't get her way. One day, however, some friendly monsters explain why she should put on her coat, eat her broccoli, etc. Tiny listens to their practical advice, also learning a healthier alternative to tantrum-throwing. The rhymed text's obvious message isn't likely to fool kids; the pastel-toned illustrations, especially of Tiny's enthusiastic monster helpers, are more engaging.

In this takeoff on the classic counting song "Over in the Meadow," moonrise brings out a succession of monsters (werewolves, mummies, zombies, goblins, etc.), all heading to "your door." Although the text can feel quite menacing, the sweet and benign digital illustrations prepare readers for a comforting ending in which "you" (an unflappable, motherly little girl) tuck all the ghouls into bed at sunrise.

In this entertaining story, feline narrator Princess Kitty describes her luxurious life in a palace, where attendants pamper her and even plan a surprise party just for her. The humorous catch: Okstad's cartoon-style illustrations reveal that this is a regular house, the "attendants" are the humans who live there (including a young girl), and the party is actually for the girl's birthday.
