Three children and their teacher put out an imaginary fire in the nick of time. While the kids are resting from their pretend play, two real firefighters pull up to the schoolyard. The class is taught fire safety and gets to tour the fire truck. Unfussy acrylic illustrations in primary and secondary colors are eye-catching.

After Sam shows off his baby brother at show-and-tell, Mr. Judd asks each of his students to bring in a baby picture. The kids guess who is who, marveling at how much everyone--including Mr. Judd, who stumps his class with a picture of himself--has changed. Illustrations of a multiethnic classroom enliven the book.
