One sunny day, Froggy decides to run a lemonade stand, hoping to earn some serious cash. The wrinkle: he has to actually make the lemonade, create a stand, and save some lemonade for his customers. More than two-dozen books into the Froggy series, London and Remkiewicz continue to provide fresh situations and serviceably entertaining cartoonish art for their daffy but sympathetic protagonist.

"Your ideas get us into trouble," says wise turtle Sparky. And, sure enough, giraffe Joe's plans for a surprise party for his (invisible? imaginary?) friend Wiggy the worm do not go as planned. Rather too much is made of the elusive Wiggy (who never does show up for the party), but Joe and Sparky's fans will enjoy seeing that their beautiful friendship goes on.

In his excitement to choose and read new books during a library visit, Froggy misbehaves and gets scolded by the librarian. This twenty-fifth adventure is fairly uninspired (he eventually wins over the librarian during storytime) and the art somewhat pedestrian. Still, readers will appreciate the book's humor (it's "so quiet you could hear a fly burp"), Froggy's infectious enthusiasm, and all the onomatopoeia.

In his twenty-fourth fun- and chaos-filled episode, Froggy finally celebrates his birthday. Certain that everyone has forgotten it, Froggy trudges sadly home to a surprise party. His presents--a skateboard, a scooter, and a pogo stick--create the series-standard mayhem, and his wish for a fly-filled piñata is ultimately granted. Both the lively illustrations and onomatopoeia-heavy text are storytime-friendly.

It's Saturday and Froggy can't wait to play with his friends. Unfortunately, none of them is home. The day gets even worse when he discovers his dad has arranged a movie playdate with pesky Frogilina. The sound effects in the text make this a good read-aloud choice, and Remkiewicz's always-playful illustrations add to the childlike energy of the story.

Giraffe Joe and best friend Sparky the turtle, who live at Safari Land, take an unexpected field trip to a school when they accidentally board a departing bus full of "noisy short people." Limited but lively vocabulary, a large font, and carefully placed illustrations--all in a humorous, high-interest package--will make this a hit.

Froggy is psyched to be going with his family on vacation. Even in Hawaii, though, trouble finds the ever-lovable amphibian--coconuts, waterfalls, volcanoes, and ill-packed suitcases. Froggy fans will be shaking their heads at his excitable ways while knowing readers will agree with Froggy's father's assessment: sometimes one needs a vacation from vacation. Bright, expressive illustrations capture the antics.

Froggy enlists the help of his animal friends to build a tree house where they can play cards and eat pizza. Frogilina wants to help, but it's strictly "No Girls Allowed!" After repeatedly saving the day, Frogilina is allowed into the club. Sound effects throughout the story, along with Remkiewicz's dependably lighthearted illustrations, make this a good choice for a read-aloud.

After catching a glimpse of a reality TV performance contest, giraffe Joe decides that he and turtle pal Sparky will become "Superstars." Froggy and his baby sister break in a new babysitter, Sandy. Froggy tries to convince her that his parents let him watch "lots and lots of TV" and eat "three desserts," but savvy Sandy doesn't fall for Froggy's tricks. Froggy is as high-spirited as usual, and the lively illustrations effectively convey the text's energy.

After winning a car, Joe Giraffe, who likes to "stretch my neck and see the world," takes cautious Sparky Turtle for a wild ride through town. The story features lots of jokes and snappy dialogue, but the chaotic plot may be too much for early readers to follow. Humorous watercolor and colored-pencil illustrations give personality to the odd-couple pals.

"Down by the station, early in the morning / See the little puffer-billies all in a row..." Vetter expands the children's song about a train to include school buses, tractor trailers, airplanes, sailboats, race cars, etc. The repetitive rhyming text, illustrated with bright, cheery watercolors showing happy animals and their rides, make this an animated read-aloud.

This Horrible Harry story centers on the narrator's third-grade-class study of fairy tales. Harry and his group of friends retell the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" to reflect Harry's fascination with insects. The classroom scenes are realistic, the characters are engaging, and the writing style is uncomplicated. This series entry will satisfy fans and newcomers alike.

The continuing adventures of Harry and his third-grade classmates focus on events in the school lunchroom. Mrs. Funderburke, one of the cafeteria ladies, designs a special contest, and Harry uses his best detective skills to discover that she is awarding prizes according to the Fibonacci sequence. The fast-paced story successfully recounts the ups and downs of elementary school life.

In Froggy's latest outing, his dream of being the star of his T-ball team has little resemblance to reality: sure to inspire compassion and grins, his shortcomings include misinterpreting the directions "catch some flies" and "run home." The slapstick art is just as amusing, especially because Froggy and family wear the same dopey facial expression.

After Sid purposely stomps on Song Lee's origami praying mantis, Harry swears to get revenge. The readable school story ends happily as the children forgive one another and enjoy a birthday party together. Like the other books in the series, this is a cheerful, realistic look at elementary school life. Recipes for "Kitty-Litter Cake" and Lebanese cookies are included.

When Harry's cat sneaks into school, Harry and Doug chase it through the teachers' lounge and into the boiler room. On their journey, the boys also learn that their beloved teacher is engaged to be married. The plot of this short chapter book will be especially exciting to young readers who themselves dream of peeking into the teachers' lounge.

Froggy can't wait for the sleepover at Max's. That night, however, Froggy sees scary shapes so they go to his house instead. Then Max gets a tummy ache, and they return to his house. As each becomes apprehensive, they go back and forth all night long. Both the text and animated illustrations contain humor as Froggy tackles his sleepover fears.

The idea of going fishing with Dad for the first time is exciting; the reality is another matter. Piggy finds a couple of details about the sport (skewering worms and fish) troubling; Dad wisely doesn't force the issue. The summery watercolor-and-pencil cartoon illustrations clue listeners into Piggy's emotions and create a bit of tension in the nicely paced story.
