Shark-obsessed Shawn is disappointed when instead of being assigned his favorite animal for a class project on predators, he's stuck with leopard seal. (His classmate Stacy gets shark.) Shawn is warming up to the seals until Stacy-as-shark starts chasing him around the playground ("Chomp!"). Easy-to-follow text (with some speech bubbles) and clear, unfussy illustrations capture the animal-loving frenemies' emotions.

Using Greek mythological characters' attributes, the story describes a way to make a friend. Cy (Cyclops) builds a chariot and forms a connection with a phoenix. An introductory "Note About Mythological Creatures" provides some context, but the friendship story line is geared toward a very young audience and may require more information from adults. Subisak gives the cartoony creatures lots of personality.
