Recipes, crafts, and gardening ideas--all related to The Secret Garden--are provided, along with background information about Frances Hodgson Burnett and the story's setting. The book is strictly for serious fans, who, even if they never actually attempt to make clotted cream or plant their own "Secret Garden in a Flowerpot," will likely still enjoy reading this activity book. (4) K-3 Illustrated by Tasha Tudor. On Christmas Eve an abandoned cat is rescued by a man scattering seeds, nuts, and leafy branches for the woodland animals. The man's sons, uneasy that Santa won't make it through the snow, are the delighted recipients of the cat on Christmas morning. Both cat and boys believe a small miracle has occurred. Cold, snow-blown forest scenes alternate with cozy, old-fashioned interiors in this revised edition of a sentimental story.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Tasha Tudor. Tudor's old-fashioned style is well suited to the classic Christmas poem. On each page, a picture filled with tiny, rustic details faces the text; both are framed by oval borders that give the artwork the appearance of tree ornaments. Most of the pictures feature animals, including the artist's familiar corgis. A welcome addition to holiday collections.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Tasha Tudor. In sixty-four richly detailed poems written from a child's point of view, Stevenson captures the joyful experiences of his Victorian childhood. Tudor's soft, homey watercolors provide a perfect decoration as they evoke the poet's privileged upbringing as well as his love for the natural world.
