The narrator is forced to "show oh-so-perfect manners" at Aunt Matilda's posh do. Bored out of his mind, he sneaks a nap; the rhyming text details his more exciting dream-state version of the party. Though the humor is a little forced, vibrant illustrations of cream pies soaring across the pages give this grownup party a kid-friendly vibe.

This story in rhyme describes the monsters in a girl's home, revealing they're more frightened of one another than she is of them. Since the girl has the upper hand there's not much suspense, which some readers may find boring while others could see it as humorous and/or comforting. The illustrations are rendered in just a few too many shades.

When the extended family descends for an eight-day Hanukkah visit, chaos ensues as soon as the first guest crosses the doorsill. But by festival's end, all are congenial and content. The rhyming text is funny but often forced. The cartoon-style colored-pencil illustrations are consistent and strong--full of warmth and entertainment.
