Body Works series.
Illustrated by
Joe Weissmann.
The light tone of these human-body books highlighting skin ailments and healthy lifestyle choices matches the brightly colored cartoon illustrations featuring chipper kids. Healthy stresses the importance of sleep, nutrition, exercise, and supportive relationships, while Itchy covers the discomforts of dry skin, dermatitis, hives, etc. The fairly elementary information omits some useful facts. Glos. Review covers these Body Works titles: My Healthy Body and My Itchy Body.

Body Works series.
Illustrated by
Joe Weissmann.
This series touches on various body systems. The texts are accessible without talking down to readers; "Fun Fact" and "True or False?" features add interest, while friendly cartoon spot illustrations help demonstrate the science. The information is a little superficial and scattered, making these books best used for browsing or as very general introductions to the subjects. Glos. Review covers these Body Works titles: My Achy Body, My Messy Body, My Noisy Body, and My Stretchy Body.

When Shlomo's brilliant idea is to feed the hens grass so they'll produce milk, readers know they're in Chelm, a village from Jewish folklore populated by wise fools. Shlomo's daughter tries to help, bringing along the rabbi who swaps a goat for some of the hens. Everyone's satisfied...until Shlomo has another idea. Colorful cartoon-style illustrations of Old World scenes underscore the humor.

Once-upon-a-Time series.
Illustrated by
Joe Weissmann.
Three tales featuring adventurers, "Jack and the Beanstalk," "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," and "Tom Thumb," are serviceably, though blandly, retold here. The cartoony illustrations are appropriate for the tales, but some of the illustrations are inconsistent with the text (Jack's mother is still dressed in rags even after the text says that they could "live in luxury"). No source notes are provided.
