"Everyone thinks that dogs have it easy. But I work from morning til night." A well-intentioned but troublemaking dog outlines the daily responsibilities it takes on--from inspecting the trash ("MUNCH! MUNCH!") to washing dishes ("SLURP! SLURP!") to singing an evening lullaby ("AR-AR-AROOO!"). The plot is skimpy, but the dog's-eye-view digital illustrations highlight the pup's spunk.

In bouncy rhymes, Hubbell describes how dogs come in all shapes and sizes and have different personalities: "Shaggy dogs, waggy dogs. / Pencil-thin and saggy dogs... / Itty-bitty pretty dogs. / Shy dogs. Bold dogs..." Cheerful colored-pencil over acrylic drawings showcase the canines' expressions as they eat, sleep, play, and offer companionship and love to their owners.

At bedtime Principal Fred discovers his teddy bear missing, so he and his family begin a frantic search. Most young readers never tire of seeing the home life of principals and teachers, and here they can both laugh at and identify with the authority figure's plight. Mixed-media acrylic and colored-pencil caricatures nail this supportive family's comical histrionics.

These poems take Little Leaguers from February's dismal, snow-covered fields through the rusty days of spring into the heart of baseball season and out to winter again, all shown in Wu's seasonally appropriate acrylic and colored-pencil illustrations. Fehler writes of the paradoxical vastness--or constriction--of the outfield (depends whether you're fielding or batting) and other common experiences of ballplayers with a knowledgeable, accessible voice.

"Once upon a time, there was a mean stepdog-mother and two stepdog-sisters. Dogerella was their servant." This book casts a plaintive pup as Cinderella. She wants to go to the princess's ball and be chosen as the girl's prized pet. The story line doesn't work completely, but there's enough humor in the text and cloudy, old-fashioned-looking illustrations to sustain readers.
