This wittily narrated fantasy, first in a series, ends with a cliffhanger.

Freddie guards a family secret, one that could threaten their growing affection, while a series of unexplained murders places her secret in grave danger. Well-crafted characters and descriptive language add appeal to this paranormal-romance/thriller hybrid.

Rumor, Nyx, Dahlia, Jude, and Braeden live on the same planet, but they come from vastly different backgrounds. Raised to either fear or befriend the native gargoyles, the teens have twenty-seven hours to untangle the politics behind human-monster warfare and save their planet. These characters, with a laudably wide range of gender and sexual identities, ultimately lead readers to question what makes someone human.
