Three very different tales--"Puss-in-Boots," "Town Mouse and Country Mouse," and "Dick Whittington and His Cat"--are given serviceable retellings. Playful acrylic illustrations generously scattered throughout use a similar naive style for each tale, reinforcing the connection between them. No source notes are included.

Three tales featuring adventurers, "Jack and the Beanstalk," "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," and "Tom Thumb," are serviceably, though blandly, retold here. The cartoony illustrations are appropriate for the tales, but some of the illustrations are inconsistent with the text (Jack's mother is still dressed in rags even after the text says that they could "live in luxury"). No source notes are provided.

Helmer serviceably retells three tales of tiny creatures ("The Elves and the Shoemaker," "The Gingerbread Man," and "Thumbelina"). Although the illustrations capture details well, the figures are stiff and sallow.
